KS1 Science
Please see our subject overview page which outlines how we teach the objectives for Science for each year group in a progressive curriculum.
We are proud to have been awarded the PSQM Science Mark in 2021 which shows our commitment to teaching Science as a core subject. We ensure that all teachers have the required subject knowledge needed to plan exciting lessons and answer our children's quesitons. As a school, we designed a Science poster with the Enquiry Types and Working Scientifically skills on - this is displayed in all classrooms to engage children in thinking about how they learn.
We hold a Science week each year - in 2022 we had a Shooting Stars Science show and workshops which developed the children's understanding of forces in action in a circus show. We also invited parents into school to speak about their scientific jobs, including working for the Environment Agency, as a haematologist and as an investigator of different diseases. Our Year 5 and 6 children went to Tollbar Academy to see their science labs and conducted investigations including evaporating salt and disecting hearts! The children learned so much and saw how vital Science is in our lives.
