Our Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for the investment in lifelong learning. At Waltham Leas Primary Academy we have designed a vibrant, agile, living curriculum, where all children are encouraged to enjoy, achieve and succeed. The curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide rich and varied learning experiences, allowing children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. Children are encouraged to make positive contributions to their community and the world around them.
Our School Council’s termly values of celebrating difference, respecting every person, representing our school, building resilience, respecting property and supporting each other are woven into all that we do.
We facilitate children’s thirst for new experiences and ensure there are no limits to curiosity. Our curriculum goes beyond the experiences of the classroom to ensure our children are provided with enrichment and enhancement opportunities needed to engage them in their learning and to ensure that childhood is a happy, investigative and enquiring time. Cultural capital prepares our learners for future success, with the exploration of new skills and experiences helping to nurture resilience, curiosity and creativity. We use learning powers to reflect positive attitudes which reflect the skills and values needed to succeed in life.
Community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum. We recognise the importance of celebrating local traditions, understanding our past and how it has shaped us. We look at what may be in the future and how we will embrace new changes
Children leave Waltham Leas with a sense of belonging and have the confidence, knowledge and skills to make decisions, self evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners. We have a curriculum we are proud of!
