Foundation Stage
During Science week, the Foundation Stage children worked with Mrs Gordon, who is a haematologist, to look at germs on our hands. We pressed our fingers in the solution on the Monday and on Friday, lots of bacteria had grown!
FS investigated how caterpillars grow into butterflies, drawing and writing about their progress and then letting them fly away when they had come out of their cocoons.
FS investigated how to make bubbles of different shapes and sizes!
Year 1
Year 1 made habitats for different animals. Who lives here?
We learned all about forces including pushes, pulls and friction when we had our Science Shooting stars workshop.
As part of our Science theme of plants and growth, Year 1 planted their raised bed - it looked beautiful :)
Year 2
We learned from Mrs Gordon about bacteria, which can be good, on our hands. She told us all about her laboratory and how she analyses people’s blood so she knows what medicines they need.
Year 2 learned about gravity and different forces in our Science Shooting stars workshop.
We have been learning about animals using our skills of sorting and classifying to group them in different ways.
Year 3
Mrs Jackson, an Environmental scientist, told us all about her work - making sure factories recycle properly and testing rivers for pollution. We liked dressing up in her jacket and welly boots!
We watched a scientific experiment - which falls first, the piece of paper or the ball of paper? Why? Which scientist tested this in Pisa from the tower?
We worked out which forces were being used when we juggle different objects including scarves, balls and clubs. Why are they all different?
What is growing in our raised bed? How long will it take?
Will these plants grow well in our greenhouses?
Year 3 designed posters to help everyone know how to grow plants.
We found out about digestion!
We have carried out an investigation about different types of soil and made conclusions.
Year 4
Year 4 designed a carrier for an egg - did they survive the fall?
We learned about the job of an environmental scientist - Mrs Jackson told us all about her role in keeping rivers clean and making sure we all recycle.
We designed a beautiful garden to attract insects in our raised bed.
Will this circuit work? We looked at conductors and insulators.

Year 5

Creating a human timeline in our groups
During Science week, Mrs Gordon, a haematologist came to explain her job and we were able to look at and test blood samples.
Year 5 are working with the Centre for Industry Education this year and have taken part in scientific enquiry activities in their classes - we went to Tronox in Stallingborough to learn about separating mixtures.
Year 6
Y6 used different forces including gravity and friction when juggling different objects. We classified them according to the force used.
Mrs Gordon, a haematologist, came and spoke to us about her job. We tested different blood samples and found out about different diseases and bacteria.
Mrs Tonks came to talk to Year 6 about her job as a Public Health Intelligence Manager. It was fascinating to hear about all the work that goes on behind the scenes and the children were very keen to ask lots of questions!
Year 6 learnt about antibodies and viruses for Science Week and had a go at creating our own virus out of origami! We then attached all our pieces together!
