Handwriting

Children in the Foundation Stage are regulary encouraged to participate in activities that will develop their fine motor control.  For example, threading, weaving, dough work and cutting.  We also have a daily 'Dough Disco' in the first half of the autumn term.

In autumn 1 the children will focus on writing patterns- horizontal lines, vertical lines, circles, diagonal lines, zigzags, and waved/curved lines.

From autumn 2 the children will learn to print letters in a discrete daily handwriting session.

Letters will be taught in letter families.

Letter Ladders- l, I, t, u, j, y

Curly Caterpillar letters- c, o, a, d, g, q, e, s, f

One Armed Robot letters- r, b, n, h, m, k, p

Zigzag Monster letters- v, w, x, z
