Geography

The intent of our Geography curriculum at Waltham Leas is to ensure that pupils are:

·  aware of global and local issues and processes and understand that we live in an interconnected and diverse world.

·  We want children to belong to their local and global communities and to recognise their place within them.

·  pupils will become consciously aware that, collectively as a race, we have a responsibility to protect the environment and act as careful stewards of the world we share.

·  We want children to leave our school with the skills and knowledge to confidently share their opinions, listen respectfully to others, and feel empowered to take an active role in discussions about the world around them.

Our Geography curriculum has been designed so that skills and knowledge are carefully built upon from EYFS through to Year 6, allowing children to grow in confidence, understanding, and independence. As geographers, the children will understand that their place in the world is invaluable and that they can help shape the future. By learning about their local area, pupils will develop a strong sense of identity, feel proud of where they come from, and understand how they belong to a wider community.

Geography is a subject that encourages investigation and enquiry-based thinking, allowing children to explore real-world issues and develop meaningful questions. Through this, we aim to empower children to think critically, become more independent in their learning, and recognise their role as responsible global citizens.
