PE

At Waltham Leas, children belong at the centre of our P.E. curriculum, where they are valued, included and encouraged to take part in physical activity in a way that suits their needs and abilities. Lessons are designed so all pupils can participate, feel safe and experience success, regardless of skill level, background or confidence. Through teamwork, cooperation and respect, pupils learn that everyone has an important role to play and that differences make teams stronger. P.E. provides opportunities for students to build positive relationships, develop self-belief and feel a sense of community, helping them understand that they belong as active, respected and supported members of their class, school and the wider community.

Our P.E. curriculum empowers pupils by giving them opportunities to develop confidence, independence and a sense of achievement through physical activity. By learning new skills, setting personal goals and recognising their own progress, pupils begin to believe in their abilities and resilience. Choice, leadership roles and problem-solving activities allow pupils to take ownership of their learning and make decisions about how they move and work with others. Through positive encouragement and inclusive practice, P.E. helps pupils feel capable, motivated and empowered to challenge themselves and lead healthy, active lives.

As children progress through our P.E. curriculum, they continue to grow each year — developing their physical skills, confidence and understanding of healthy, active lifestyles over time. Through regular practice and varied activities, they improve coordination, strength and endurance while learning to persevere and learn from mistakes. P.E. encourages personal development as students reflect on their progress, set new challenges and build resilience when tasks feel difficult. By working with others, giving and receiving feedback and taking on new roles, students grow not only as movers but also as confident, respectful and motivated learners.

Our curriculum is designed to help our children to:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

  • are physically active for sustained periods of time

  • engage in competitive sports and activities

  • lead healthy, active lives.
