Whole School Approach to SEND

At Waltham Leas Primary Academy, we believe each child is unique with the potential to achieve and thrive. We recognise that some children may need additional support to reach their potential, short or long-term.

Waltham Leas Primary Academy is proud to be an inclusive academy in which children of all abilities and from all cultures and backgrounds are valued equally. We are strongly committed to raising the aspirations of and the expectations for all pupils and we provide a focus on outcomes for children and not just provision/support. Each child has access to a broad and balanced curriculum that meets their needs, builds on their strengths and abilities and enables them to progress appropriately.

This is a vision shared by all staff within Waltham Leas Primary Academy and as a result, we seek to work in collaboration with our children, parents/carers and academy staff. Through this collaborative approach, we will always endeavour to listen to the views and concerns of our pupils and their families, and work with them to enable best outcomes for all pupils and address and resolve any concerns or issues. Parents/carers are invited in to school for regular reviews of their child’s progress and attainment in additional to the twice-yearly Parents Consultation Evenings. If you require additional meetings, the first point of contact should always be the class teacher.

At Waltham Leas Primary Academy, we aim to:

• Identify children with Special Educational Needs as early as possible
• Ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum that is differentiated or scaffolded to meet their needs
• Create an environment that allows every pupil to achieve and thrive
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence and self-esteem and to recognise the value of their own contributions to their learning
• Make clear the expectations of all partners in the process and provision of Special Educational Needs
• Ensure parents are kept fully informed and are engaged in effective communication about their child’s SEN.
• During their time at Waltham Leas Primary Academy, a child’s social, emotional or educational needs may change. These will be recognised and supported through early identification and swift bespoke support, as necessary.

The Local Offer is the place on the North East Lincolnshire website that provides and directs you to information that will support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The Local Offer helps parents, children and young people aged 0 to 25 years find information about specialist and targeted services or activities in North East Lincolnshire.
