Litter and Recycling
We asked the local waste team to come and talk to us about recycling. We got a new compost bin and recycling bins so we can recycle more waste. We organise litter picks in our village and with the Parish council so we ensure that our local area is clean and tidy. We asked everyone to create a sculpture from plastic bottles and we all bring in bottles from home and re-use them.
In July 22 we were awarded our Eco Schools Award! We have written our Eco code and will continue to help to look after our planet each academic year by having regular Eco warrior meetings and working with the local community.
Currently, we are working with SchoolCycled to recycle plastic bottle tops into benches and boxes for our playground. We have collected so many boxes of plastic tops and will keep saving until we have reached enough points to get more furniture to add to our Christmas trees, tables and planters that we have chosen so far.
Marine
After showing the whole school images of single use plastics in the sea and the danger for wildlife, we organised beach cleans with the Ebb and Flo shop in Cleethorpes.
We wanted to spread the word further and so we organised a poster competition - the entries were amazing! We displayed them in school and at the beach.
We will continue to find out more about what we can do to use less plastics - we use the bin at Coop for soft plastic waste as much as we can.
Waltham's Eco Warriors
One person from each class was voted for at the beginning of the year to be their Eco warrior and develop everyone's understanding of important environmental issues and what we can do to help. We hold the Eco Schools award.
We developed our Eco Action plan by asking each class to find out about different topics. As a group, with the School Councillors, we then decided which 3 topics were the ones we wanted to find out more about - they were Marine, Waste and Litter.
We decided on what we would like to achieve and have worked really hard to involve our local community and parents to do this.
We invited Paula from Centrica to come and talk to us about plastic pollution and recycling - she was very impressed with our knowledge!
